    Sturdy, attractive, great for personalizing

I needed a replacement for my old leather portfolio (its weak zipper broke). Was looking for something sturdier and found this one. Zippers are sturdy and substantial (if not a bit stiff at first). Overall, piece is well-made, sturdy and definitely screams “tactical”, which I’m okay with. I ditched the silly squirrel patch and added PVC USA flag on top, name patch on second-from-top Velcro strip, and a “St. Michael Protect Us” patch on third. Pretty cool and won’t be mistaken for anyone else’s. Reasons for 4 not 5 stars: 1) while it has 5 elastic pen/pencil (or skinny flashlight) loops—a definite improvement over my old leather portfolio’s 1—these loops are way too loose and don’t hold normal sized pens/pencils well. 2) Rather than the 3 deep card slots, wish they had 4 shallower ones as business cards sink down below top of openings and are kind of a pain to fish out. 3) Although the front/back seems to have sufficient reinforcement for pad of paper on back and docs in front folder pocket, overall this piece is a bit floppy. When open, the front wants to protrude past the back on open side. Wish it would sit a bit more square when open. This is a bit of an OCD gripe, though, and doesn’t affect performance. Overall, happy with piece and expect it will last a long time given construction. $50 does seem a bit steep for what it is, though.
